Natural biological processes have the capability to build beautiful, complex and highly functional structures. This is all done rapidly at remarkably low temperatures, low pressures, and under mild chemical conditions. Biological processes have ways to elegantly construct as well as deconstruct materials, usually with more integrated and benign impacts on the immediate environment and surrounding systems. With the growth of bio-organic feed stocks, bio-based materials manufacture, bio-fuel technology, biodegradable polymers and other technology trends, we cannot ignore the fact that the use and manufacture of bio materials, using bio-processes, will continue to grow and diverisfy. The industry will continue to learn from examples in nature to do things more simply and elegantly. We at Bridgehead see this shift in approach as a sea-change in how materials will be made and used in the future.
